The Indonesian Ministry of Trade hopes that various discount schemes launched ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026 can boost public purchasing power whilst stimulating the economy in regions across the country.

Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri stated that the government, working with distributors’ associations throughout Indonesia, is introducing a range of price reduction programmes at modern retail outlets.

“We visited one of the modern retail outlets, Hypermart in Batam City today, and we saw various discount schemes being offered to the public,” said Deputy Minister Roro in Batam, Riau Islands, on Tuesday.

According to her, the Ministry of Trade, together with business operators, is presenting several programmes such as “Shop in Indonesia Only” (BINA) Discount and Friday Mubarak to provide attractive price cuts for consumers.

“We can see there are many discount packages and attractive offers here, such as packages for breaking the fast and packages for sahur. The hope is that with discount schemes like this, we can encourage people to shop at modern retail outlets and provide a multiplier effect for the economy,” she said.

Meanwhile, the BINA (Shop in Indonesia Only) Eid programme runs from 6 to 30 March 2026 with discounts of up to 70–80 per cent on fashion and lifestyle products at more than 400 shopping centres across Indonesia.

In addition to monitoring the discount programme, Deputy Minister Roro also reviewed basic food prices at the retail outlet.

Based on monitoring at the outlet, red bird’s eye chilli prices were recorded at approximately 56,000 rupiah per kilogramme, red chilli at 54,000 rupiah per kilogramme, green chilli at 73,000 rupiah per kilogramme, shallots at 41,000 rupiah per kilogramme, and garlic at approximately 23,000 rupiah per kilogramme.

Rice under the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation programme (SPHP) was recorded at approximately 65,500 rupiah per package, frozen beef rendang at 130,000 rupiah per kilogramme, and frozen chicken ranging from 53,000 to 64,000 rupiah per kilogramme.

Roro added that the Ministry of Trade continues to coordinate with local government and the National Food Agency (Bapanas) to ensure stock availability and price stability of basic foodstuffs ahead of Eid.

Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad welcomed the central government’s policy, which is being implemented by business operators in the region.

“We appreciate the central government’s policy that has been implemented at the regional level together with business operators such as price reduction schemes for basic foodstuffs,” said Amsakar.

He noted that based on regional government monitoring, basic food prices in Batam and Riau Islands Province are generally stable.
