The Padang City Government distributed death benefits from the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs to the heirs of victims of the flash floods and landslides that occurred in late November 2025. The distribution of compensation took place at the White Building of the Padang City Mayor’s Official Residence on Wednesday, February 25th.

After handing over the compensation, the Deputy Mayor of Padang, Maigus Nasir, emphasized that this compensation is not a replacement for the lives lost, but rather a form of deep empathy from the government.

“This is a form of state presence. We hope that this fund will be used wisely, especially for children who need educational expenses to continue their future,” said Maigus.

Each heir received Rp15,000,000 in cash as a form of condolence. The compensation was given to the heirs of eight victims who died from the Koto Tangah sub-district and three victims who died from the Pauh sub-district.

The distribution of compensation was witnessed directly by representatives from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Indra, and the Head of the Padang City Social Service, Eri Sendjaya. Meanwhile, the Head of the Padang City Social Service, Eri Sendjaya, said that the data collection had been carried out since the flood event in November 2025. He emphasized that the 11 recipients of the compensation were residents of Padang City. Meanwhile, victims from outside the area have been coordinated with the local government.

“Verification was carried out very strictly involving related OPDs until data by name and address was obtained. Thank God, the Ministry of Social Affairs kept its promise to disburse this compensation before Eid al-Fitr,” said Eri Sendjaya.

He also added that after this stage, the government will focus on strengthening social and economic assistance for affected residents. One of the recipients of the compensation, Ari Septiadi, who lost his mother and younger sibling, said that he would use the assistance for his college expenses. “It is planned to be saved first, some for ongoing college fees,” he said softly.

In the same vein as Ari, Mintarsih, who lost her husband and child in the disaster, said that she did not expect to receive this much attention.

“I am grateful to the neighborhood association and the sub-district head who helped take care of everything. At this time, I don’t know what the money will be used for, I am still in a state of grief,” she said.

In addition to condolence money, the government is completing the construction of Permanent Housing (Huntap) and preparing for the distribution of living guarantee funds for residents who have lost their homes. (YH/E-4)
