Ministry of Social Affairs expands Atensi programme reach to remote islands in Jakarta
Jakarta — The Ministry of Social Affairs has expanded the reach of its Social Rehabilitation Assistance (Atensi) programme to remote island areas of Panggang Island, Thousand Islands Regency, Jakarta, distributing aid to 62 elderly residents.
Hisyam Cholil, Head of the Ministry of Social Affairs’ Sentra Handayani Centre, stated in Jakarta on Friday that this expansion of services represents the government’s effort to ensure vulnerable groups continue to receive social protection despite residing in remote areas.
“Atensi is not merely assistance, but an investment in elderly independence. On Panggang Island, we plant the seeds of enterprise that will flourish, bringing prosperity to our outermost islands. Together, we realise inclusive social welfare,” he said.
The distribution of assistance took place on 11-12 March 2026 to elderly beneficiaries requiring support for basic needs and capacity-building towards self-reliance.
Cholil explained that the presence of the Atensi programme in island communities forms part of the government’s commitment to providing equitable social services to all citizens.
He added that the service approach focuses not only on material assistance but also on strengthening elderly self-reliance so they can continue leading productive lives.
The Ministry of Social Affairs hopes the Atensi programme can continue reaching vulnerable populations across various regions, including island areas and regions with limited access to social services.
