Ministry of Religious Affairs Prepares 6,859 Mosques as Waypoints for Homecoming Travellers
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Romo Muhammad Syafii announced that 6,859 mosques have been prepared to provide services for travellers during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations of 1447 AH. These mosques will serve as designated stopping points offering facilities to travellers in need of rest during their journey.
“Mosques are indeed places of service,” stated Romo Muhammad Syafii in an official statement from the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
The mosque services form part of a Ministry of Religious Affairs programme called the Indonesian Mosque Expedition. These thousands of mosques will function as rest stops providing various facilities for the travelling public.
The services offered include 24-hour access to mosques and prayer rooms, security services, parking areas, healthcare facilities, hygiene maintenance particularly in toilet facilities, and provision of clean water.
Additionally, mosques will provide mobile device charging facilities, rest areas, information centres, and food services.
In implementation, the Ministry of Religious Affairs is collaborating with Radio Elshinta to disseminate information about service mosque locations and travel conditions to travellers.
The Indonesian Mosque Expedition broadcasts via Radio Elshinta will run from eight days before to eight days after Eid. Meanwhile, mosque services for travellers will be available from seven days before to seven days after Eid.
“Elshinta will broadcast from minus eight days to plus eight days, whilst the mosque services will begin minus seven days before Eid and continue for seven days after Eid,” he said.
