The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has distributed emergency aid for the recovery of religious and educational facilities damaged by a land movement disaster in Jatinegara, Tegal. The assistance is directed at mosques, prayer halls, and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) that sustained severe damage.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Romo Muhammad Syafi'i affirmed the government's commitment to supporting the operations of religious education institutions disrupted by the disaster.

"In every disaster of a fairly large scale, pesantren and houses of worship are inevitably affected," said Romo Syafi'i after inspecting the disaster site in Padasari Village on Monday (16 February 2026).

At the location, he said, there were mosques, prayer halls, and two pesantren affected by the landslide. The government therefore immediately distributed assistance in the initial phase.

"In the initial phase, we distributed funds from Kemenag Peduli Bencana (Ministry of Religious Affairs Disaster Relief). The district office head had already contributed Rp 20 million," said Romo Syafi'i.

"From the regional office, there is Rp 100 million, and from the central Kemenag Peduli fund there is Rp 250 million. From the directorate of Islamic boarding schools, there is Rp 100 million. This is in addition to the formal proposals they have submitted to the Ministry of Religious Affairs," he detailed.

Beyond emergency aid, Kemenag has also coordinated with the Ministry of Public Works to assist in rebuilding pesantren facilities at locations safe from disaster.

"The Minister of Public Works also intends to establish the Islamic boarding school, but naturally at a location safe from disaster," he explained.

Regarding the fate of the students, teaching and learning activities have been temporarily suspended during the emergency response period. However, he continued, the pesantren have prepared emergency arrangements to ensure the educational process can continue, albeit with limited facilities.

"Once they are able to at least recover their readiness for teaching and learning activities, even though the infrastructure has not yet been rebuilt, they have prepared ways to continue educational activities, even if not in the usual manner within the boarding school," he added.
