JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) requires an additional budget of around Rp 6.35 trillion in 2026 to continue handling post-disaster infrastructure in the Sumatra region, particularly in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Minister Dody Hanggodo stressed that accelerating budget realisation is crucial so that the rehabilitation and reconstruction programmes initiated during the emergency response phase can continue. β€œIn principle, we are ready to implement all agreed directives. However, acceleration in the field greatly depends on the availability and disbursement of the budget. We hope the budget can be realised soon so that ongoing work can continue and be completed,” said Dody on Tuesday (7/4/2026). For 2026 specifically, the budget needs reach Rp 25.40 trillion. Thus, acceleration of Additional Expenditure Budget (ABT) allocation is required to maintain work continuity. Dody mentioned that since the emergency response phase, the Ministry of PU has handled several priority infrastructures, such as road repairs, bridges, and plans for sabo dam construction. However, budget limitations remain the main obstacle in maintaining work continuity. On the other hand, field handling progress shows significant development. In the raw water and clean water sector, the average achievement reaches 72 percent, with 165 out of 176 drinking water supply systems (SPAM) functioning again. For the connectivity sector, all 107 national road segments and 43 national bridges have returned to 100 percent functionality. Meanwhile, for regional networks, 94 percent of 2,421 affected road segments and 67 percent of 1,181 bridges have resumed operations. In the settlement sector, cleaning has been carried out at 571 locations with over 92 percent achievement. Additionally, construction of housing for 1,545 household heads is nearly complete with progress exceeding 93 percent. Dody emphasised that coordination with ministries/institutions and local governments continues to be strengthened so that all programmes run in sync and on target. With budget realisation acceleration, the government is optimistic that the infrastructure recovery process in affected areas can proceed faster and provide certainty for the community.
