Ministry of Public Works ready to anticipate extreme weather risks during Lebaran homecoming
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is ready to anticipate the potential for extreme weather during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming and return traffic period.
"We are anticipating the potential for high-intensity rainfall, flooding, and landslides at a number of vulnerable points," Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti told ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday.
For toll road sections, Diana said, command posts, Disaster Relief Units (DRU), heavy equipment, and emergency response materials have been placed on standby.
Meanwhile, for national roads, the Directorate General of Highways (Bina Marga) has mapped locations vulnerable to landslides, flooding, and accidents, and has prepared a daily reporting mechanism for road and traffic conditions throughout the Lebaran period.
"Coordination is being carried out with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas), and the Ministry of Transport for traffic management in the event of disruptions. Should disruptions occur, field responses will be carried out swiftly to ensure public mobility is maintained," Diana said.
Minister of Transport Dudy Purwagandhi has called on all parties to anticipate extreme weather during the 2026 Lebaran transport period.
He said that given the extreme weather conditions, all parties must be prepared, particularly throughout the 2026 Lebaran transport season.
Dudy explained that, where possible, his ministry would consider the option of conducting weather modification operations to support public services during ferry crossings.
He added that preparations must also be made to anticipate high waves in ferry crossing waters.
Minister of Transport Dudy Purwagandhi also met with West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi to strengthen monitoring at vulnerable points along the 2026 Lebaran homecoming route, with the aim of improving travel safety and ensuring smooth public mobility in the region.
Dudy stressed the importance of strengthening surveillance at a number of vulnerable points that could potentially cause congestion or compromise travel safety during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming and return period, particularly in the West Java region.
