The Ministry of Public Works (Ministry of PU) and Toll Road Business Entities (BUJT) are strengthening Eid al-Fitr homecoming services for 2026 through the provision of 189 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) at various rest and service areas on toll roads. Minister of PU Dody Hanggodo stated that homecoming readiness does not solely rely on road stability but also on the completeness of supporting facilities along the journey. “We are ensuring the readiness of national road infrastructure, including toll roads, in passable condition. However, equally important is the readiness of supporting facilities, such as rest areas, which serve as key points for travellers to rest safely and comfortably,” Dody said in his statement in Jakarta on Thursday, 19 March 2026, as quoted from Antara. The presence of these facilities is part of efforts to support the smooth travel of homecomers, especially electric vehicle users. The SPKLU are distributed along the main sections of the Trans Java Toll Road and Trans Sumatra Toll Road, providing convenience for the public to undertake long-distance journeys with electric vehicles in a safer and more comfortable manner. On Java Island, 152 SPKLU units are installed at 73 rest and service areas from the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road to the Pandaan-Malang Toll Road. Meanwhile, on Sumatra Island, there are 37 SPKLU units at 27 rest and service areas spread from the Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar Toll Road to the Pekanbaru-Dumai Toll Road. With the availability of these SPKLU, homecoming journeys using electric vehicles are now more comfortable for long-distance travel. In addition to providing SPKLU, the Ministry of PU is also ensuring the readiness of rest areas as supporting travel facilities. Currently, there are 136 Temporary Rest Areas (TIP) spread across all operational toll road sections in Indonesia, equipped with various facilities such as public fuel filling stations (SPBU), parking areas, toilets, places of worship, culinary centres, and rest rooms. To anticipate surges in traffic volume during the homecoming period, the Ministry of PU is also preparing 15 functional rest and service areas that can be operated situationally to alleviate congestion at existing rest areas. Some rest and service areas that are ready for use include the Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road KM 37+000 A/B, Kuala Tanjung-Tebing Tinggi-Parapat KM 99+800 A/B, and Semarang-Solo Toll Road KM 439+000 A and KM 444+000 B, which have been equipped with additional facilities such as workshops, health posts, lactation rooms, and ATM centres. Meanwhile, several other rest and service areas are being prepared gradually and can be functioned on a limited basis according to traffic needs during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return flow periods, including the Palembang-Betung KM 71+000 A/B rest and service area with approximately 95 percent progress, as well as the temporary rest and service area on the Cipali section at KM 77B utilising the former Cikopo Toll Gate. Through the strengthening of toll road services, optimisation of rest areas, and wider provision of SPKLU, the Ministry of PU hopes that the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming journeys can proceed more smoothly, safely, and comfortably, while also encouraging the transformation towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation system.
