Ministry of Public Works accelerates well construction in temporary shelters in South Tapanuli
Medan — The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is accelerating the construction of boreholes in temporary shelters (huntara) in Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, to meet the clean water needs of residents in the area.
“We are rushing to complete the borehole construction, which is targeted to be finished this week,” said Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo in Batang Toru on Monday.
Hanggodo stated that two borehole points are being constructed by PT Nindya Karya to meet the clean water requirements of residents living in the temporary shelters.
He said that during the current construction phase, a flushing process is being conducted to ensure the water produced is clean before being distributed to 245 families occupying the temporary shelters.
“Before construction is completed, additional clean water supply is still being provided by South Tapanuli’s Fire and Rescue Department to fill water tanks in the temporary shelters,” he said.
The Public Works Minister therefore asked residents to be patient as the borewell construction is currently in its final stages.
“We continue to pursue progress on clean water provision so that disaster-affected residents can soon occupy all the temporary shelters that have been prepared,” he stated.
He added that President Prabowo is also preparing the construction of permanent housing for disaster-affected residents in the area, so they can live more comfortably.
Regent Pasaribu Gus Irawan Pasaribu welcomed the efforts of the Ministry of Public Works and other related parties in accelerating the provision of temporary shelters for disaster-affected residents.
“With the acceleration of temporary shelter provision, disaster-affected residents as a whole are expected to be able to occupy the shelters before Eid,” he said.
