The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is revitalising 116 schools affected by floods and landslides in Bireuen Regency with a total budget of Rp167.4 billion.

“With this revitalisation assistance, the government can ensure that teaching and learning activities are restored and run optimally in disaster-affected areas,” said Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti during a visit to Bireuen Regency on Tuesday.

He explained that schools with minor and moderate damage are targeted for completion by the end of the new academic year in June 2026, whilst those with severe damage and requiring relocation are targeted for completion in November 2026.

He stated that all 116 schools have formalised cooperation agreements (PKS), with 86 schools undergoing repairs through self-management by the schools themselves and 30 schools to be handled by the Indonesian Army (TNI AD).

During the emergency transition phase whilst awaiting school revitalisation completion, the ministry and partners have provided temporary classrooms in the form of tents and emergency classroom spaces (RKD).

The minister noted that in 2025, 7,308 schools and educational institutions in Aceh will receive digital learning support assistance. Primary schools (SD) and junior high schools (SMP) are the largest recipients, with 2,404 and 2,046 schools respectively receiving digital learning equipment and facilities. The digitalisation programme also reaches 902 special education and non-formal education institutions, including special schools (SLB) and community learning centres (PKBM).

He added that revitalisation and digitalisation represent two important pillars in the national education transformation.

“We want to ensure that every school, whether in urban or remote areas, has equal opportunities to develop and provide the best educational services to students,” he said.

During the visit to Bireuen, the minister laid the foundation stone for the revitalisation of SMPN 2 Peudada Bireuen, inspected several affected schools included in the revitalisation programme, and distributed assistance comprising computer purchases, books, and school kits.

The minister was accompanied by the Head of Aceh Provincial Education Office Murthalamuddin and Bireuen Regent Mukhlis, along with several officials from the ministry.
