Ministry of Population and Family Development Strengthens Eight Family Functions to Support Child Protection Regulation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga)/National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) is strengthening eight family functions to support the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas). Minister of Population and Family Development (Mendukbangga)/Head of BKKBN Wihaji highlighted the importance of religious, socio-cultural, affection, protection, reproduction, education, economic, and environmental nurturing functions as the foundation of the family in implementing PP Tunas. “Kemendukbangga/BKKBN remains focused on strengthening the family’s role as the key to successful child protection in the digital space. Currently, we cannot deny that we have a new family member named the mobile phone,” he said when contacted from Jakarta on Saturday. To support the implementation of PP Tunas, Wihaji stressed the importance of parents making time to chat with their children without gadget distractions as one step to improve family quality. The implementation of PP Tunas, he continued, also needs to be balanced with accompanying children when using social media. “Parents are expected to accompany children in the wise, safe, and responsible use of social media and digital devices,” he stated. Wihaji also committed to utilising the network of Family Planning Extension Workers (PKB) spread across various regions in Indonesia, numbering more than 500,000 people, to strengthen parental education on the implementation of PP Tunas. “With cross-ministerial support, the government hopes that the implementation of PP Tunas can run effectively and its benefits can be widely felt by children and families throughout Indonesia,” he said. Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid affirmed that the Indonesian government will not compromise with digital platforms that do not comply with the mandate to protect children in the digital space in line with PP Tunas, which takes effect today, Saturday (28/3). “The government instructs all digital platforms doing business in Indonesia to immediately align their products, features, and services in accordance with applicable regulations. There is no compromise on compliance, and every business entity operating in Indonesia is obliged to comply with the laws applicable in Indonesia,” Meutya said. She also expressed appreciation to two digital platforms, X and Bigo Live, which have full compliance with PP Tunas. She also welcomed platforms TikTok and Roblox, which are categorised as partially cooperative with PP Tunas. Meanwhile, four other platforms—Facebook, Threads, Instagram, and YouTube—still do not meet the provisions of PP Tunas. PP Tunas requires every business entity operating digitally to comply with the provisions of that regulation.
