Ministry of Population and Family Development Opens Consultation Services to Support Safe Eid Holiday Travel
Jakarta — The Minister of Population and Family Development (Mendukbangga)/Head of the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), Wihaji, has announced that the ministry will establish service posts during the 2026 Eid holiday period to support families undertaking the traditional homecoming journey with safety.
“God willing, we will provide support at several points with service posts from the Ministry of Population and Family Development/BKKBN offering family services, consultations, and contraceptive services,” Wihaji stated in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He expressed hope that during the 2026 holiday period, all Indonesian families returning to their hometowns would have safe, comfortable journeys whilst remaining healthy and returning in good condition.
The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), similarly emphasised that the holiday journey is not merely travel but a tradition involving the broader community and Indonesian families.
“This is why the Ministry of Population and Family Development/Head of BKKBN is present, and in accordance with the direction and attention of President Prabowo Subianto, we all wish to ensure that preparations for the holiday rush proceed smoothly. The government is making every effort to be present from the outset, ensuring the journey is safe, secure, smooth, enjoyable, and affordable,” said Coordinating Minister AHY.
AHY also noted that his ministry and the ministries under its coordination, including the Ministry of Public Works, are focusing on inspecting road access along the Trans-Java and Trans-Sumatra routes ahead of the Eid holiday period.
He explained that several matters require attention during the forthcoming holiday and return period, including extreme weather conditions.
“I am continually encouraging the Ministry of Public Works—they work morning, afternoon, and night—because the Trans-Java and Trans-Sumatra routes are lengthy and will certainly face significant challenges, particularly in relation to weather,” said AHY, when speaking with journalists at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, 10 March.
“We must continue to monitor current weather conditions and be prepared if extreme weather occurs, particularly heavy rain that could cause damage and potentially lead to accidents. I believe we are all focused on that now,” he added.
