Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection Oversees Handling of Death of Indonesian Migrant Worker in Saudi Arabia
Jakarta – The Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI) continues to oversee the handling of the case involving the death of Indonesian migrant worker Nur Watirih Bt Masmud Sarta from Indramayu, West Java, who became a victim of criminal activity in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Director-General of the Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection, Rinardi, stated that the government, through Indonesia’s representation in Saudi Arabia, continues to monitor the legal process against the perpetrator whilst ensuring the protection and fulfilment of the victim’s and her family’s rights.
“First and foremost, the government extends its deepest condolences over the passing of the deceased. The government, through the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, continues to oversee the legal process against the perpetrator whilst ensuring protection and the fulfilment of the deceased’s rights,” Rinardi said in an official statement on Thursday.
According to a report from the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, forensic examination findings indicate that the victim’s death was caused by assault. The perpetrator, a Saudi Arabian national, has been arrested and detained at Al-Malaz Women’s Prison in Riyadh, to face further legal proceedings.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh has appointed a lawyer to assist in the ongoing legal process. We hope this process will deliver justice for the deceased and her family,” Rinardi said.
The Director-General also stated that the victim was buried in Saudi Arabia on 6 March 2026 with family approval.
“The family has given approval for the deceased to be buried in Saudi Arabia,” said Director-General Rinardi.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection, through the Regional Migrant Worker Placement and Protection Agency (BP3MI) in West Java, has provided assistance to the victim’s family in Indramayu, including help with obtaining necessary documents to support the legal process in Saudi Arabia.
The ministry is also investigating allegations of non-procedural departure.
“We are also investigating the party that facilitated the departure of the deceased, as there are indications that the departure was conducted non-procedurally. If proven, those responsible for arranging non-procedural departure will be prosecuted in accordance with applicable legal provisions,” Rinardi stated firmly.
The Director-General reminded the public to ensure that the process of departing to work overseas is conducted procedurally through official channels by checking job openings through the SISKOP2MI system at siskop2mi.bp2mi.go.id
