Ministry of Law and Human Rights Monitors Allegations of Sexual Violence Against a Child in Ciracas, East Jakarta
The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (KemenHAM) responded to public complaints regarding allegations of sexual violence against a child in Kelapa Dua Wetan, Ciracas, East Jakarta. A ministry team led by Mikael Azedo Harwito, Head of the Jakarta Regional Office, carried out medical verification assistance and cross-agency coordination at RSUD Ciracas on Monday 2 March. The move aimed to ensure the child victim’s basic rights, including legal protection, health services, and psychological recovery. The verification involved the East Jakarta Office for Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control (Sudin PPAPP), officials from Kelapa Dua Wetan urban village, and the medical team at RSUD Ciracas. This cross-sector collaboration is crucial to ensure the case is handled in an integrated manner and in accordance with applicable regulations. Azedo stressed that the ministry’s presence is to oversee the process to ensure it meets regulatory standards. ‘We are here to ensure the state is present in providing maximum protection to the victim,’ he said in a written statement on Wednesday 4 March 2026. He noted that the synergy between the Kanwil KemenHAM, Sudin PPAPP, and the hospital is essential to prevent long-term trauma for the victim and to reduce the risk of further victims in the surrounding environment. During the examination by a paediatric specialist, Dr Nia Azizah, the four-year-old victim underwent medical examination and further consultations. Following these findings, the Jakarta KemenHAM Regional Office emphasised the importance of ongoing psychosocial support. Azedo also urged Sudin PPAPP Jakarta Timur, together with child counsellors, to implement routine trauma-healing programmes and to use medical data as a basis to strengthen complaint handling and subsequent legal steps to ensure justice for the victim. ‘We are committed to continuing to monitor the progress of the case comprehensively until it is resolved, in order to realise Jakarta as a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly environment,’ Azedo concluded.
