Ministry of Law and Human Rights Introduces Kampung Redam and Desa Sadar HAM Programs to West Lombok Regency
West Lombok Regency, Lombok Barat (West Lombok) – The Ministry of Law and Human Rights introduced two flagship programmes, Kampung Redam (Reconciliation and Peace) and Desa Sadar HAM, during a meeting with West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini at the regency office in Lombok Barat on Wednesday, 4 March. The initiatives, planned for 2026, will be directed to the lowest administrative level—kampung, desa, or kelurahan—so that human rights aspects are felt directly by communities. ‘Desa Sadar HAM kami hadirkan untuk memastikan penguatan nilai-nilai HAM itu langsung menjangkau masyarakat di desa-desa. Selain itu juga untuk memastikan aspek-aspek penghormatan, pelindungan, penegakan hingga pemenuhan HAM di masyarakat tingkat desa, menjadi lebih terjamin,’ said Thomas Harming Suwarta, Special Staff to the Minister of HAM. Thomas explained that Desa Sadar HAM in 2026 is planned to reach at least 2,000 villages across Indonesia, as will the Kampung Rekonsiliasi dan Perdamaian implementation. Regarding targets, Desa Sadar HAM and Kampung Redam will also contribute to achieving the SDGs with their 17 indicators, since these indicators relate to human rights, including economic, social and cultural rights as well as civil and political rights. ‘The Minister of HAM emphasised that the introduction of these programmes is also to accelerate the SDG targets—such as poverty eradication, zero hunger, sanitation, clean water, gender equality, and the creation of justice and peace, among others,’ Thomas noted. At the same event, West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini welcomed the Desa Sadar HAM and Kampung Redam programmes, noting their relevance to current needs and conditions in the district. ‘We welcome them and are ready to support because these are very good programmes. Conflict is a significant issue in our area, and we need the Ministry of HAM’s role to help resolve it together through Kampung Redam. Desa Sadar HAM is also needed due to numerous human rights issues, requiring joint efforts to address them,’ Zaini said. He cited long-standing conflicts such as in Desa Mareje between Muslims and Buddhists, and noted issues like rampant illegal mining managed by communities and land disputes. ‘Going forward, our collaboration with the Ministry of HAM will be strengthened through these programmes,’ he concluded. Also attending were two other Special Staff of the Minister of HAM, Martinus Pigai and Herman Dogiyai, as well as West Lombok Regent’s Secretary Ahmad Saikhu. (Cah)
