The European Union is an important partner for Indonesia, and the establishment of the EU Desk will further strengthen collaboration in the future.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has established a European Union (EU) Desk, a specialised working unit tasked with facilitating the investment process from the European Union to Indonesia.

Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, in Jakarta on Monday, stated that the establishment of the EU Desk would encourage increased EU investment in Indonesia. The presence of the desk within the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries/BKPM is in line with President Prabowo's directive to simplify regulations and policies to reduce bureaucratic barriers, particularly in investment matters.

"We believe the EU Desk will open more channels of communication and potential strategic cooperation that can be mutually beneficial. The European Union is an important partner for Indonesia, and the establishment of the EU Desk will further strengthen collaboration in the future," said Minister Rosan.

The EU Desk will serve as a service centre for EU investors wishing to invest in Indonesia, with functions encompassing the provision of market intelligence, business licensing guidance, business cooperation facilitation, identification of potential investment projects, and harmonisation of regulatory policies between both parties.

The focus of cooperation is directed at future sectors relevant to the priority policies of both Indonesia and Europe. This cooperation also reaffirms Indonesia's commitment to remaining open to collaboration with various strategic partners.

"Of course, we are increasingly open to broader cooperation. I believe that with this EU Desk, more partnerships will be created in the future. We are ready to continue forging and strengthening collaboration with the European Union going forward," Rosan added.

This step also reflects the ministry's commitment to supporting the acceleration of the European Union-Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (EUCEPA) negotiations, which are expected to be concluded before the end of the year.

With the establishment of the EU Desk, Indonesia and the European Union demonstrate concrete commitment to building a more inclusive, productive, and future-oriented economic partnership.

Furthermore, EU Ambassador to Indonesia Denis Chaibi emphasised that the EU Desk is not merely a technical facility but rather a representation of shared ambition to deliver high-quality and sustainable investment.

Chaibi explained that the EU currently holds a total global investment stock of 11 trillion US dollars, yet the share of investment absorbed by Indonesia remains relatively low. He therefore affirmed the commitment to encouraging diversification of EU investment, with Indonesia as one of the priority destination countries.

"We want to support Indonesia's efforts to attract more impactful foreign direct investment (FDI), create jobs, and promote cooperation in strategic sectors aligned with Indonesia's national development vision," said Chaibi.
