The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is strengthening the quality of industrial human resources by preparing professional competency assessors to support industrialisation and enhance Indonesia’s manufacturing competitiveness. In a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Monday, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stressed that manufacturing remains the backbone of the economy and one of the largest employers in Indonesia. Therefore, the need for skilled and certified industrial workforce is increasingly critical. ‘National industrial development requires investment, technology, and competent human resources. Therefore, Kemenperin consistently prepares competency infrastructure programmes to meet the demand for professional and competitive industrial workers,’ the minister said. According to Kemenperin data, the food industry is the largest manufacturing sector in terms of employment in 2025, contributing around 13.86 per cent to total manufacturing workforce. This underscores the manufacturing sector’s strategic role in creating inclusive and sustainable jobs. Furthermore, as part of strengthening the industrial competency ecosystem, Kemenperin’s Agency for Industrial Human Resource Development (BPSDMI) will host the first 2026 Competency Assessor Training from 4 to 8 May 2026 in Jakarta. The training follows guidelines to produce professional competency assessors capable of conducting industry competency tests. BPSDMI Chief Doddy Rahadi said competent industrial human resources require a robust competency infrastructure, including the National Industrial Work Competency Standard (SKKNI), Professional Certification Bodies (LSP), competency assessors, and Competency Testing Centres (TUK). ‘This training is a tangible demonstration of government facilitation and collaboration between the government, industry, LSPs, and academia to strengthen national industrial workforce competency,’ Rahadi added. The five-day training consists of four days of learning and one day of competency assessment, with 20 participants from industry practitioners and academia representing LSPs. Trainers and assessors involved are master assessors appointed directly by the National Professional Certification Body (BNSP). Successful participants will receive competency assessor certificates issued by BNSP. Meanwhile, Kemenperin’s Industrial Human Resource Education and Training Centre Head Ronggolawe hopes LSPs will optimise the role of competency assessors in certification processes according to their respective schemes. ‘LSPs must also strengthen collaboration with companies and industry and professional associations, while expanding certification schemes to meet industry demands,’ he added.
