Ministry of Industry accelerates SNI certification for roof tiles to support housing programme
Bandung (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is accelerating Standard National Indonesia (SNI) certification for roof tiles to support public housing programmes, including those in West Java. Emmy Suryandari, head of Kemenperin’s Standardisation and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI), stated that the initiative supports the Gentengisasi programme by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement (PKP). ‘Through supporting roof tile standardisation, we are assisting the West Java Provincial Government with the Gentengisasi programme under the Ministry of PKP for Public Housing,’ said Suryandari in Bandung on Monday. She explained that although roof tiles are not yet in the mandatory SNI category, Kemenperin is promoting adoption through technical guidance to meet housing programme standards. She noted that concrete steps include accelerating certification for West Java’s roof tile industries to enable businesses to join government supply chains. ‘Roof tiles are not yet mandatory SNI, but the PKP Ministry requires SNI-certified tiles,’ she said. Suryandari added that the acceleration aims to enable West Java’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in roof tiles to contribute to government programmes while strengthening the competitiveness of local building materials. She said Kemenperin is providing technical guidance and facilitation to ensure standardisation does not hinder businesses, especially SMEs. ‘Thus, we are focusing on rapidly implementing SNI Gentengisasi in West Java,’ she said. Notably, West Java’s SME roof tile hubs are spread across regions like Majalengka (Jatiwangi), Purwakarta (Plered), and Cirebon, which are key building materials production bases. Approximately 200 roof tile SMEs are based in Majalengka, with some already undergoing SNI certification and others in training to upgrade. The programme aligns with rising demand for subsidized housing in the region, projected at 62,591 units in 2025 and an additional 40,000 in 2026, requiring an estimated 45 million roof tiles. Through these efforts, Kemenperin aims to integrate local roof tile SMEs into the national housing supply chain while boosting the competitiveness of domestic building materials.
