Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services Distributes Tens of Thousands of Welfare Packages to North Sumatra Residents Ahead of Eid
The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas) has distributed welfare packages containing basic foodstuffs to communities in North Sumatra. The distribution took place at several locations ranging from Belawan to Medan.
“This major initiative from Immigration Minister Agus Andrianto serves as a reminder to all of us that government institutions must deliver tangible benefits directly to the people,” said Parlindungan, Regional Director of the Directorate General of Immigration for North Sumatra, on Sunday (15 March 2026).
He noted that the month of Ramadan represented an opportunity to strengthen social responsibility and reinforce cooperation with communities. “Through this Ramadan momentum, we are implementing the minister’s instructions to strengthen social responsibility and build stronger public trust in North Sumatra,” Parlindungan added.
A total of 5,000 welfare packages were distributed to residents who had previously been informed to gather at the Puja Kesuma Hall in Tanjung Morawa on Saturday (14 March). Parlindungan cited Minister Agus’s direction that all Immigration Ministry personnel must not only excel in serving the public but also serve as frontline agents in distributing benefits.
The Head of Belawan Class II Immigration Office, Eko Rajagukguk, who directly oversaw the distribution, stated that he ensured all technical teams in the field coordinated with humanitarian activists. The goal was to guarantee that logistical support reached recipients promptly and reached those genuinely in need.
Additionally, 2,000 welfare packages were distributed at the Indonesian Chinese Community Council office in North Sumatra (MITSU). The ministry and its North Sumatra offices also distributed 2,000 packages to disadvantaged residents through the Central Management Board of Horas Bangso Batak.
Distribution of welfare packages continued on Monday (16 March), with plans to deliver a further 2,000 packages.
Previously, the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services had also distributed welfare packages at two locations—at the Bunda Indah residence in Bumi Seroja Permai Complex, Block H45, and at Pesanggrahan Pendawa on Advocate Raya Street No. 9, Kanal-Marendal, on Wednesday (11 March).
This distribution effort resulted in 4,000 packages being allocated to communities in need, comprising 1,500 packages at the Bunda Indah residence and 2,500 packages at Pesanggrahan Pendawa.
