Ministry of Human Rights Urges Thorough Investigation into Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus Without Any Dilution
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Human Rights has requested that the investigation into the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), be conducted thoroughly, transparently, and ensured to have no reduction or distortion in the process.
“This case serves as a litmus test for public trust in law enforcement and human rights protection in Indonesia; therefore, it must be ensured that no reduction or distortion occurs in this case,” stated Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance, Munafrizal Manan, in his official statement on Thursday (19/3/2026).
“It is hoped that the law enforcement process will be carried out synergistically between Polri and TNI to uncover this case transparently and thoroughly,” said Munafrizal.
Munafrizal requested that the investigation be conducted based on the facts and evidence available on the ground.
Furthermore, investigators from Polri or TNI are expected to conduct investigations professionally and accountably.
“The Ministry of Human Rights supports and appreciates the formation of the Working Committee (Panja) by Commission III of the DPR RI, which will continuously monitor the handling of this case to ensure law enforcement and human rights protection for Andrie Yunus,” added Munafrizal.
In the future, the Ministry of Human Rights will build communication and coordinate with national human rights institutions to monitor Andrie’s case.
Meanwhile, this acid attack case against the human rights defender is no longer a domestic issue but has become an international spotlight, including from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Special Rapporteur.
This is to avoid negative assessments from international human rights institutions towards Indonesia.
“Serious law enforcement and multi-stakeholder collaboration in resolving this case are key to maintaining public and international trust in Indonesia. We must prove that Indonesia has a strong commitment to protecting human rights defenders (human rights defenders) so that a negative image does not emerge regarding the democracy and human rights climate in the country,” concluded Munafrizal.
So far, they have been detained at Puspom TNI before eventually being transferred to detention at Pomdam Jaya.
