The Ministry of Human Empowerment and Development (Kemenko PM) held a public hearing titled “Strengthening from the Perspective of Practitioners and Entrepreneurs in the Gaming Industry” in Jakarta on Tuesday (31/3). This forum was organised to gather direct input from industry players to strengthen policies for national game development.

Deputy for Coordinating Community Economic Empowerment and Protection of Migrant Workers at Kemenko PM, Leontinus Alpha Edison, stated that the national gaming subsector has shown significant growth in recent years. Based on 2025 data, the export value of Indonesian game developers reached US$60.8 million, ranking fourth after fashion, crafts, and culinary products.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the market share of local games in the domestic market remains low, at around 1%, while the domestic market is dominated by imported products. “The government is not standing idle and has pushed for acceleration through Presidential Regulation No. 19 of 2024. The spirit is clear: we want locally made games to be the host in their own country and to shine on the global stage,” Leontinus said.

According to him, this forum serves as a platform for the government to directly hear various challenges faced by industry players, from funding limitations to the dominance of foreign publishers. He emphasised the importance of public participation in policy formulation to make it more targeted.

“This afternoon, the roles are reversed. The government will be the listener, and friends from the industry will be the main speakers. Please convey input, suggestions, complaints about pain points, or even harsh criticism to us. Don’t hold anything back,” he stressed.

Leontinus added that input from practitioners will be formulated into concrete steps, including in the form of policy briefs, to sustainably strengthen the national gaming ecosystem.

APPRECIATION FOR GOVERNMENT INITIATIVE

Meanwhile, CEO of Toge Productions, Kris Antoni Hadiputra, appreciated the government’s initiative in opening a dialogue space with industry players. He hopes the forum can produce policies that are more relevant to on-the-ground conditions.

“We greatly appreciate Kemenko PM’s step in coming down directly to hear voices from below. Forums like this give new hope that future policies will be more connected to what we face in the studio every day,” Kris said.

He added that the direct involvement of industry players in the policy formulation process is a positive initial step to boost the competitiveness of local games.

“This is a very positive initial step to elevate local games. Hopefully, it won’t just go in one ear and out the other, but from this event, real steps can emerge,” he stated.

The public hearing featured several speakers from various industry lines, including Director of Games at the Ministry of Creative Economy, Luat Sihombing; representative from Genesia Ventures, Aero Wibowo; CEO of Toge Productions, Kris Antoni Hadiputra; representative from Memento Studios, Arrizki Ramadhan; and representative from Arsanesia, Adam Ardisasmita.

SUPPORT FOR GAMING INDUSTRY

The Ministry of Creative Economy reaffirmed its support for the gaming and esports industry at the 8th anniversary celebration of PUBG MOBILE held on 28-29 March 2026 in Surabaya, East Java.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, while attending the event on Saturday (28/3), stated that games are one of the strategic subsectors in the creative economy.

As quoted in the ministry’s press release confirmed on Monday (30/3), she said that Indonesia is not only a game market but also a source of creative talent.

Therefore, the Ministry of Creative Economy is striving to encourage global game platform providers to collaborate with Indonesian creative players. “Indonesian gamers are one of the largest, number two in the world after China. So if we are not only able to play games but also develop digital assets to create content—our friends are really good at making content, right? Then Indonesia will be on the map,” Irene explained.
