Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Ministry of Health is facilitating 1,126 staff members participating in a joint homecoming programme by deploying 26 bus convoys to various cities across Java and Sumatra, enabling employees to return to their hometowns safely, comfortably, and in good health.

Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono stated that homecoming is not merely a journey home, but an emotional moment for reuniting with family. The programme aims to facilitate staff in reaching their hometowns without facing the risks of exhausting travel.

“Homecoming is not just returning to one’s village, but returning from the heart. We reunite with family with warmth after a year or two of separation,” Dante said when confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.

Dante noted that in 2026, the Ministry’s homecoming buses serve various routes to major cities, including Padang, Bukittinggi, Palembang, Malang, Surabaya, Semarang, Solo, Yogyakarta, and Purworejo, with the furthest destination reaching Medan, North Sumatra.

On the same occasion, Health Ministry Secretary-General Kunta Wibawa Dasa Nugraha explained that this joint homecoming programme is designed with strict health protocols, including health screenings for drivers.

“This is a homecoming programme we conduct while prioritising health aspects. There is free health screening, including for drivers. From the outset, they undergo health tests to ensure no drug or alcohol consumption, as well as mental health assessments,” said Kunta.

He noted that healthcare service readiness along the entire homecoming route has been coordinated with various parties.

“If a child is ill, it is advisable to postpone travel until they are fully recovered to avoid transmitting illness to others. We also recommend mask use for those showing symptoms and practising clean and healthy living behaviours (PHBS) such as handwashing with soap, especially in crowded places,” stated the official.

The joint homecoming programme has been enthusiastically received by Ministry of Health staff. Arti Novelia Trisnawati (37), a staff member of the Health Crisis Centre travelling to Surabaya, expressed joy at participating in this free homecoming programme.

“Besides being free, the buses are comfortable and provide meals and refreshments. I also always make new friends during the journey. Maintaining good physical health is important for a smooth journey. I hope next year the free homecoming programme continues,” she said.

“This is not my first time participating. My hope is that this joint homecoming continues to be held in the future and the number of buses can be increased,” she added.
