Ministry of Health: 102 Districts/Cities Intervene in Measles Cases via ORI Immunisation Chase
JAKARTA (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) states that currently, around 102 districts and cities are intervening in measles cases through Outbreak Response Immunization (ORI) or catch-up immunization campaigns.
Indri Yogyaswari, Director of Immunization at Kemenkes, said in Jakarta on Wednesday that of the 102 districts and cities, 33 are conducting ORI, while the rest are carrying out catch-up immunization.
“Now, from the 33 districts and cities conducting ORI, we are monitoring these 10. Why are we monitoring these 10? Because these 10 have the highest cases among all 33 ORI locations,” Indri stated.
She explained that these districts and cities include Pandeglang, Serang, South Tangerang, Buma, Depok, Palembang, and West Jakarta.
She noted that these intervention efforts are in line with the Immunization Agenda 2030, which mandates three key aspects.
“The first is to reduce deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases across all age groups,” she said.
Secondly, she added, to ensure access to vaccines, including new vaccines, so that no one is left behind in immunization. Thirdly, to ensure that everyone receives immunization reinforcement as an integral part of primary healthcare services.
According to Indri, multi-stakeholder collaboration is needed to achieve measles elimination by 2030.
Previously, Kemenkes stated that although there has been a significant decline in suspected and confirmed measles cases in Indonesia, with a 93 percent reduction in week 12 of 2026 compared to the first week, surveillance is still being conducted rigorously.
In addition, Kemenkes has issued a Circular Letter (SE) on measles vigilance to protect healthcare workers and medical personnel, and plans to vaccinate them given their high risk of contracting measles due to frequent handling of cases.
