Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) has confirmed that 6,047 umrah pilgrims have returned home safely following escalating security concerns in the Middle East region.

According to Kemenhaj spokesman Ichsan Marsha in Jakarta on Monday, between 28 February and 1 March 2026, all returning pilgrims arrived securely in Indonesia. The government continues to oversee this process to ensure all pilgrims return home in an orderly, phased manner.

The government is closely monitoring the security situation in the Middle East and has prioritised the safety, security, and protection of umrah pilgrims. All handling procedures are being conducted in a measured, coordinated manner with safety as the paramount concern.

On Saturday, 28 February 2026, 4,200 umrah pilgrims returned to Indonesia via 12 flights. On Sunday, 1 March 2026, a further 2,047 pilgrims arrived on five flights.

According to data from the Computerised System for Umrah and Special Hajj Management (Siskopatuh) on 1 March, approximately 58,873 Indonesian umrah participants remain in Saudi Arabia.

Ichsan stressed that the government is ensuring every umrah travel operator (PPIU) fulfils its obligations, from departure arrangements through to services in Saudi Arabia and the return of pilgrims. These responsibilities cannot be neglected. The government has also requested that communication between PPIU operators and pilgrims remain strong.

Regarding protection measures, the government has affirmed that state support is available. Pilgrims facing protection difficulties, legal issues, or emergency situations in Saudi Arabia or transit countries are urged to immediately contact the relevant Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) or Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI).

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is coordinating closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian diplomatic representatives abroad to ensure all pilgrims’ issues are addressed quickly and appropriately. All pilgrims are requested to remain calm and follow official guidance.

In prioritising the safety and protection of pilgrims, Kemenhaj has urged prospective pilgrims scheduled to depart for umrah in the near future to postpone their journeys until conditions in the Middle East return to normal.
