Based on expert calculations, approximately Rp204 trillion is required to achieve the FOLU Net Sink 2030 target.

Kuningan, West Java (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Forestry states that the forestry and land sector plays a crucial role, contributing 60 percent to fulfilling the national greenhouse gas emission reduction target by 2030.

Project Manager for FOLU NC 2&3 at the Ministry of Forestry, Arga Paradita Sutiyono, said that without mitigation actions, Indonesia’s greenhouse gas emissions are projected to reach 2.8 billion tons of CO2 equivalent by 2030.

“Through various actions in the forestry and land sector or Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink, we aim to reduce this figure to 1.2 billion tons of CO2 equivalent. This means a reduction of 1.6 billion tons, with 60 percent relying on the forestry sector,” said Arga during the discussion forum “Synergy of Indonesian Women for Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030” organised by the Ministry of Forestry at Gunung Ciremai National Park, Kuningan, West Java, on Monday evening.

Arga explained that the main strategies to achieve this target include tree planting to increase carbon stocks, maintaining protected forest areas and national parks as carbon stocks, and protecting peatlands, which have emission potential 20 times higher than ordinary land.

“Therefore, funding collaboration from various parties, both domestic and foreign assistance, is needed so that all mitigation actions such as forest fire control and social forestry can run optimally,” he stated.

The Synergy of Indonesian Women for Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 event was held from 11-13 May 2026 in the Gunung Ciremai National Park area, Kuningan, West Java.

This educational and inspirational activity, initiated by the Bureau of Public Relations and Foreign Cooperation of the Ministry of Forestry, highlights the role of Indonesian women in concrete forest management actions and achieving the FOLU Net Sink 2030 target, while building a positive narrative on forestry policies through public communication.

The Ministry of Forestry hopes this event will serve as a momentum to strengthen synergy among ministries/institutions, stakeholders, and society in supporting the implementation of Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030.

In this regard, effective public communication approaches and sustainable collaboration are expected to build more comprehensive understanding and broader support for the national forestry priority agenda.
