Ministry of Foreign Affairs Has Not Yet Opened Evacuation Option for Indonesian Citizens in Iran, Situation Still Conducive
Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) has not planned evacuations for Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Iran, though emergency contingency plans remain on standby. The Acting Director of Citizens’ Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, stated that evacuation routes will be implemented if necessary.
“Evacuation options are not yet required; however, contingency plans remain on standby, including evacuation route options should they become necessary,” said Heni when reached on Thursday (26 February 2026).
Heni stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran continues to monitor developments in Iran’s security situation.
“And to date, the situation in Tehran and other cities is reported to be running normally and is conducive. Both international and domestic airports continue to operate normally,” said Heni.
Nonetheless, Heni urged Indonesian citizens in Iran to remain vigilant and monitor the latest developments.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran continues to urge all Indonesian citizens in Iran to increase their vigilance, monitor the latest developments in the situation, and maintain communication with the Indonesian Embassy,” she said.
Iran and the United States conducted five rounds of nuclear negotiations throughout last year. However, the process stalled following a major Israeli attack on Iran, which triggered armed conflict lasting 12 days.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that US President Donald Trump continues to prioritise diplomacy as the preferred option.
In response to this tension, several countries have asked their citizens to leave Iran, including India.
“Given the evolving situation, Indian nationals currently in Iran are advised to leave Iran using available means of transport, including commercial flights,” said the Indian Embassy in Tehran in a social media post.
