Ministry of Environment Designates Former Head of DKI Environmental Agency as Suspect in Bantargebang TPST Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH) has pursued a criminal route by designating AK, the former Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, as a suspect in the case of the management of the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST).
Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, in a statement confirmed from Jakarta on Monday, stated that the government will not tolerate waste management practices that violate regulations, especially those that result in loss of life.
“This law enforcement is part of the government’s commitment to ensure that waste management is carried out responsibly and in accordance with statutory regulations. We have provided guidance, supervision, and administrative sanctions. However, if not complied with, law enforcement measures must be taken,” explained Minister Hanif.
He explained that in the development of handling the case in DKI Jakarta Province, environmental law enforcement apparatus has designated the suspect against the former Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Environmental Agency with initials AK in the Bantargebang TPST management case.
The landslide incident that occurred on Sunday (8/3) in landfill zone 4 of TPST Bantargebang serves as concrete evidence of management that does not meet the requirements.
The incident resulted in seven people dead and six injured. The ongoing investigation process has now entered the next stage with the determination of the suspect responsible for the management.
Previously, KLH/BPLH had taken gradual guidance and supervision measures. TPST Bantargebang has been subject to administrative sanctions in the form of Government Coercion since December 2024.
Supervision of the implementation of those sanctions has been conducted twice, in April and May 2025, with results showing that the managers have not fulfilled the stipulated obligations.
