Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources states that crude oil supply from Nigeria has arrived
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has stated that the crude oil supply from Nigeria has arrived in Indonesia, as part of Indonesia’s efforts to diversify its crude oil sources.
“It has already been realised. (From Nigeria) it’s underway. It has arrived,” said the Director General of Oil and Gas (Dirjen Migas) of the Ministry of ESDM, Laode Sulaeman, when met at the Ministry of ESDM office in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Laode stated that Indonesia has already obtained crude oil suppliers from countries that do not need to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. To date, the Strait of Hormuz remains closed as a result of the war between the United States (US)-Israel and Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz handles 20 percent of global oil shipments and 80 percent of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade for Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Therefore, Indonesia has begun seeking alternative crude oil sources. Laode mentioned that there are three countries serving as alternative crude oil sources with large volumes, namely Russia, the United States, and Nigeria.
“For now, that’s what I know, because the figures are large. If others are small, they must be from other countries too. Like in Angola, in African countries,” Laode said.
On that occasion, he also stated that Indonesia’s energy stocks, including crude oil, fuel oil (BBM), and LPG, are in a safe condition.
Laode emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability of fuel stocks to serve the public.
“Mr Minister (ESDM Bahlil Lahadalia) always says that we sometimes have to stay up late every day to chase those stocks so they match. That’s what we do so that the public can still be served,” Laode said.
Before the outbreak of the war between the US-Israel and Iran, Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that around 20 percent of Indonesia’s crude oil imports previously came from the Middle East.
The government has prepared alternative supplies from other countries in response to the geopolitical turmoil in the Middle East, such as from Angola, Nigeria, Brazil, the United States, to Russia.
In mid-April 2026, Bahlil negotiated the purchase of crude oil and LPG from Russia during his meeting with Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev in Russia on Tuesday (14/4).
Indonesia has obtained a commitment of 150 million barrels of crude oil from Russia, which will be delivered in stages until the end of 2026.
