The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has stated that it is still working to enable two tankers owned by PT Pertamina (Persero) to cross the Strait of Hormuz.

“The Ministry of ESDM continues to communicate and coordinate intensively with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that the process of Indonesian ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz proceeds safely and smoothly,” said ESDM spokesperson Dwi Anggia in a written statement on Sunday, 29 March 2026.

The two ships, Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, have been held in the Persian Gulf since Iran closed the strategic route at the end of February. The Strait of Hormuz serves as a distribution route for approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply.

Previously, spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela stated that from the outset, his side, along with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, had engaged in intensive communication with Iranian authorities.

“In its development, there has been a positive response from the Iranian side. Currently, this matter is being followed up by relevant parties on technical and operational aspects,” Nabyl said.

Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina International Shipping Vega Pita stated that the company continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss shipping technical aspects.

“PIS, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is discussing the technicalities so that the two ships, Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, can cross the Strait of Hormuz safely. Currently, both ships are still in the Arabian Gulf,” she said.
