Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Culture is striving to build synergies to strengthen the national film ecosystem, including through collaboration with PT Produksi Film Negara (PFN). “We want to synergise what we do with PFN so that the national film ecosystem becomes stronger,” said Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, as quoted in the ministry’s press release confirmed on Thursday. The Minister of Culture has met with PFN’s President Director Riefian Fajarsyah to align programmes, including those related to strengthening the ecosystem, facilitating industry players, and preserving film cultural heritage. Fadli stated the need to strengthen the national film industry and ecosystem so that Indonesian films become better known on the international stage. He said the government is preparing various instruments to support the development of the national film industry. The government is, among other things, striving to strengthen the National Talent Management as well as providing funding support and facilitation for filmmakers. He said that as a state-owned entity, PFN should not only be a production house competing with the private sector, but also carry out the role of facilitator and catalyst. “We want to position PFN in the right place in the industry, not as a competitor, but as a facilitator for Indonesian filmmakers,” he said. He conveyed PFN’s plan to build an office as well as a film centre that includes film training and education facilities, crew certification facilities, production studios, post-production facilities, and workspaces for filmmakers. He also highlighted the urgency of building a film museum as part of efforts to preserve the nation’s collective memory. The Minister of Culture opened opportunities for collaboration with PFN in efforts to restore films and strengthen the intellectual property of film works. Director General of Development, Utilisation, and Fostering of Culture Ahmad Mahendra stated that the government supports efforts to preserve, digitise, and restore films. “We will identify films that need to be digitised or restored, considering that the process requires considerable resources,” he said.
