Ministry of Communication and Digital warns public to be cautious in digital transactions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has reminded the public to be cautious when conducting digital transactions, including when accessing financial applications on mobile phones.
The Head of the Human Resource Development Agency of Kemkomdigi, Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, stated during a discussion in Jakarta on Tuesday that financial applications offer advantages such as quick and easy transactions, but if users are not careful, these apps can cause harm.
“Therefore, the security of financial transactions is important. Shopping online in the digital space provides convenience and speed, but we must not be tempted,” he said.
The first tip is that the public needs to avoid sharing sensitive personal data such as PINs, passwords, or OTP (One Time Password). According to Boni, such data should only be known by the account owner and must not be shared at all, including with parties claiming to be from official entities.
Next, to keep digital financial transactions safe, the second tip provided is to utilise official digital payment methods. Choose transactions through financial institutions that are registered and supervised by the Government so that the transactions conducted are secure and free from fraud.
Finally, do not forget to protect devices with strong passwords and activate two-factor authentication on all financial accounts. This third tip is a simple step, but it is often overlooked.
In fact, if a digital financial account is suspected of being hacked, the account does not immediately transfer to the hacker’s hands because it already has layered protection.
Boni warned that there are currently many digital crimes that are disguised, and if the public lacks digital literacy, there is a high chance they will become victims.
Therefore, Kemkomdigi continues to promote digital literacy activities by introducing the CABE curriculum so that the public can be educated and respond wisely to activities in the digital space.
Boni also reminded the public not to forget the principle of “saring sebelum sharing” (filter before sharing content) as a basic principle for surfing in the digital space to avoid falling into cybercrime.
