Ministry of Communication and Digital Guides Reliable Digital Infrastructure to Support WFH Policy
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is fully committed to guiding digital infrastructure in Indonesia to be reliable in supporting the work-from-home (WFH) policy currently under review by the central government as one of the efforts to achieve energy efficiency.
Through the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure, Kemkomdigi is strengthening service quality and expanding connectivity coverage, both through fixed broadband and mobile broadband services, so that when the WFH scheme is implemented, network communications do not become an obstacle.
“Through the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure, we are proactively conducting technical coordination with service providers to optimise all infrastructure pillars, from backbone networks, backhaul, to access and data centres,” said the Director General of Digital Infrastructure at Kemkomdigi, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, to ANTARA on Monday.
As of 30 March 2026, Kemkomdigi records that for mobile broadband or cellular networks from three cellular operators (Telkomsel, XL Smart, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison), there are a total of approximately 613,696 sites for 4G networks and 16,339 sites for 5G networks.
For fixed broadband services, as of 30 March 2026, Kemkomdigi records the distribution of Optical Distribution Point (ODP) points for fibre optic networks for Fibre To The Home (FTTH) services has reached nearly 98 percent of districts/cities throughout Indonesia.
Previously, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, during the Full Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace on Friday (13/3), encouraged steps to save fuel oil (BBM) consumption and consider the work-from-home (WFH) policy as a measure to anticipate the impact of the global crisis.
Following up on that directive, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the government is formulating a policy by providing flexibility for one day of WFH in five working days.
Even several ministries, such as the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Culture, have announced WFH policies in response to the President’s directive.
The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, mentioned that the national WFH policy as an energy efficiency effort will be announced on Tuesday (31/3).
“Just be patient, I hear it’s very likely, possibly, yes, it will be officially announced tomorrow. So, I don’t want to preempt,” Tito said when asked about the progress of the policy at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.
Tito declined to provide further leaks regarding the WFH policy. However, he assured that the Ministry of Home Affairs will later issue more detailed guidance to regional governments (pemda).
“Yes, there will definitely be (guidance to regional governments),” he said.
