Manokwari (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has allocated Rp114 billion for the revitalisation of 89 educational institutions in West Papua Province in 2025.

Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, in Manokwari on Thursday, said the revitalisation programme is part of the government’s efforts to create safe and comfortable learning environments to support human resource quality improvement.

“In 2025, we have completed 100% of the revitalisation of 89 schools across West Papua,” said Abdul.

For Manokwari Regency, he said, 31 schools benefit from the 2025 revitalisation programme with a budget of approximately Rp39.9 billion, while the rest are spread across six other regencies in West Papua.

“We hope all West Papua proposals are addressed. As we know, the president has raised the target for 2026 to 71,744 schools,” he said.

According to him, the infrastructure improvement programme aims to create educational environments from early childhood (PAUD), kindergarten (TK), junior high (SMP) to senior high (SMA) that are not just places for teaching and learning, but a shared home for all students.

The implementation of the revitalisation programme reflects the ministry’s long-term commitment and strategy to achieve high-quality education development through universal participation.

Additionally, he said, Kemendikdasmen applies a new student admission system with four channels: domicile, achievement, affirmative action, and transfer, aiming to balance student numbers across educational institutions.

All public educational institutions are expected not to violate operational standards by adding classrooms once applicant numbers meet the quota, as Kemendikdasmen will impose sanctions.

“If applicant numbers are full, forced admissions are not allowed. They will not be recorded in the main education data (dapodik). We will lock the dapodik system,” Abdul stressed.

The revitalisation programme not only positively impacts the improvement of facilities and infrastructure but also motivates students and teachers to carry out teaching and learning activities.

“Schools’ appearance is improving thanks to the central government’s revitalisation programme,” said Hermus.

Hermus acknowledged that the implementation of efficiency policies amounting to approximately Rp200 billion has made it difficult for local governments to implement social service programmes, including education spending.

Local governments need central government budget allocation support to realise quality, high-standard, and inclusive education development programmes as expected by the people across Manokwari region.

“We are assisted by the educational institution revitalisation programme,” Hermus said.
