Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Prepares New Scheme to Secure Future of Non-Civil Servant Teachers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is preparing a new scheme to ensure the continuity of employment and salaries for non-civil servant teachers currently teaching in public schools across various educational levels.
The Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Dirjen GTK) of Kemendikdasmen, Nunuk Suryani, stated that the role of non-civil servant teachers is still very much needed, given their long tenure and the ongoing shortage of teachers, especially in 3T regions.
“In this circular, it is agreed to regulate up to 2026 because there will be a new scheme that is still being discussed regarding their assignments, as they will still be needed next year,” said Nunuk in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) on Tuesday.
Furthermore, she explained that Kemendikdasmen had previously issued Circular Letter of the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Number 7 of 2026, which contains provisions on the employment and salaries of non-civil servant teachers until 31 December 2026.
This circular, she said, provides certainty for the extension of employment and salaries for non-civil servant teachers, whose arrangements are deemed to have been completed at the latest in December 2024 based on Law No. 20 of 2023 on Civil Servants.
In addition, based on the same circular, non-civil servant teachers who hold educator certificates but do not meet the workload requirements will receive incentives from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
Lastly, non-civil servant teachers who do not yet have educator certificates will receive incentives from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
“We issued this circular because local governments need a reference circular to continue extending the non-civil servant teachers,” Nunuk stated.
Therefore, she emphasised that her side will continue to advocate for non-civil servant teachers based on the needs of their roles and will not lay them off, contrary to recent widespread reports.
“So the public should not create unsettling situations. For now, non-civil servant teachers should continue working for this year because there will definitely be no termination of employment. We continue to fight for non-civil servant teachers,” she asserted.
