Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Completes Revitalisation of 349 Educational Units in West Sumatra
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has successfully completed 349 educational units under the 2025 Revitalisation of Educational Units programme in West Sumatra province. The programme was executed with a total budget of more than Rp306 billion, covering 31 early childhood education units (PAUD), 135 primary schools (SD), 93 junior secondary schools (SMP), 43 senior secondary schools (SMA), 16 vocational secondary schools (SMK), 21 special education schools (SLB), and 10 special needs basic education units (SKB).
During the inauguration of a New School Unit (USB) at TK Aisyah Sarilamak in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti stated that the Revitalisation of Educational Units programme represents Kemendikdasmen’s efforts to support President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita in building superior Indonesian human resources (SDM), while also serving as tangible proof of realising Quality Education for All.
To achieve Quality Education for All, Minister Mu’ti outlined Kemendikdasmen’s concrete steps in West Sumatra. Throughout 2025, 7,047 Interactive Flat Panels (IFP) have been distributed, reaching 1,110 PAUD, 4,236 SD, 867 SMP, 350 SMA, 164 SMK, 187 SLB, and 133 SKB.
“We want to ensure that every educational unit in West Sumatra has equal opportunities to provide good educational services. In this way, children can grow and make a positive impact on society, especially in West Sumatra,” said Minister Abdul Mu’ti in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra, on Friday (17/4).
On the same occasion, the Minister also highlighted the 13-Year Compulsory Education programme. He acknowledged that quality education is not just about building infrastructure but also about developing children’s character, which must start from an early age. As a form of government attention, starting in 2026, Kemendikdasmen will expand the Indonesia Pintar Programme (PIP) from kindergarten level to more than 880,000 students at Rp450,000 per child per year.
“The programme aligns with psychological studies explaining that early childhood education is the foundation determining success in higher education levels. It also serves as an initial step in shaping children’s character,” he explained.
