Ministry of Agriculture Ensures Availability of Sacrificial Animals Ahead of Eid al-Adha
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) has ensured that the supply of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid al-Adha 2026 is in a safe and controlled condition to meet the increased needs this year. “Nationally, the condition or availability of sacrificial animals is sufficient and controlled,” said Director General of Livestock and Animal Health of Kementan, Agung Suganda, during a press conference at the Office of the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom) in Jakarta on Wednesday. He explained that the potential availability of sacrificial animals this year reaches 3,246,790 heads. Meanwhile, the estimated need for 2026 is around 2,355,470 heads, resulting in a surplus of about 891,320 heads. In detail, Kementan’s data shows the availability of cattle reaches 859,268 heads against a need of 791,452 heads. “The projection of sacrificial animal needs for 2026 increases by around 3.82 percent or 86,727 heads compared to 2025,” he stated. He said that the government continues to regulate the distribution of sacrificial animals from surplus production areas to regions with high needs to ensure even supply and controlled prices. To monitor the health and implementation of sacrificial slaughtering on Eid al-Adha, the government has prepared 9,743 sacrificial animal monitoring officers to conduct checks before and after slaughtering. “For 2026, the number of goat and sheep slaughters to be carried out in Indonesia is recorded at 10,779 heads, with a value of around Rp28 billion or possibly up to Rp30 billion now, spread across 17 provinces,” said Agung Suganda.
