JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Minister for Housing and Human Settlements (PKP) Maruarar Sirait has confirmed that the land near Tanah Abang, guarded by the Chairman of the United Indonesian People’s Movement (GRIB) Jaya, Rosario de Marshal alias Hercules, is a state asset.

The land is planned to be utilised for building homes as part of the government’s 3 million homes programme.

Ara, her familiar nickname, inspected the location and met with Hercules on Sunday (5/4/2026). During the meeting, Hercules claimed the land was not state-owned.

She stated that after consulting with the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), it was confirmed that the land indeed belongs to the state.

Therefore, the government will continue to utilise the land to build homes for the community.

Ara also mentioned that PT KAI (Persero), which will manage the land, will install a sign regarding the state ownership status on Monday (20/4/2026).

She emphasised that the state must not lose in defending its assets.

“If anyone occupies state land, they must clearly state the reason and basis. This is the state, state assets. This is a rule of law state. The state must not lose, because the state is right and the purpose is also right,” she asserted.

On the same occasion, Deputy Director of PT KAI Dody Budiawan stated that there are three locations near Tanah Abang Station with state asset status.

These consist of Pasar Tasik, covering 1.3 hectares (ha), with a management rights certificate (HPL) in the name of KAI as a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN).

As well as two plots in Tanah Abang Bongkaran, each covering 17 hectares and 19 hectares, which have HPL status in the name of KAI.

“So there are three KAI land locations there,” he said.

The Director General of Land Dispute and Conflict Handling at the Ministry of ATR/BPN, Iljas Tedjo Prijono, also affirmed that the three lands are state assets.

According to him, the land already has an HPL certificate in the name of KAI, so its status is clear as a state asset.

“If it is state land, land in the category of having no status whatsoever, it can be applied for by anyone. But if it is a state asset, the intention is that it belongs to the state. In this issue, the land is recorded as a state asset granted with an HPL certificate,” said Iljas.
