Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection highlights the importance of improving women's digital literacy
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, is promoting enhanced digital literacy for women as a vital component of building family digital resilience.
“Women need to boost their capacity to adapt to very rapid changes. Women’s role is crucial because they are the first educators of children, the nation’s future generation. With good digital literacy, mothers can guide children to discern accurate information and embrace positive values and culture,” said Minister PPPA Arifah Fauzi in Jakarta on Monday.
She made these remarks while opening the National Work Meeting (Rakernas) of the Indonesian Women Caring Alliance with the theme “Strengthening Women’s Role in Building Family and National Resilience in the Digital Era” in Jakarta.
She stressed that women have a strategic role as the main pillar of the family, the pillar of community development, and agents of social change.
“This capability is important for filtering information exposure and protecting oneself and the family in cyberspace,” said Minister Arifah Fauzi.
She stated that the Ministry of PPPA has implemented various concrete efforts, including enhancing digital literacy for women and housewives, as well as encouraging women’s participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
On the protection side, the Ministry of PPPA is actively advocating for gender-perspective digital policies and launching campaigns to prevent Online Gender-Based Violence (KBGO).
Meanwhile, the General Chair of the Indonesian Women Caring Alliance (Alppind), Atifah Hasan, explained that the rakernas aims to find solutions for better digital ecosystem governance for women.
“This era brings opportunities as well as threats, especially for families as the smallest unit of society. Women are at the forefront of change, both as guardians of values and character in the family, and as economic actors and agents of change in society. If women’s capacity and position are not strengthened, family resilience will weaken,” said Atifah Hasan.
