PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has expressed profound condolences over the accident involving a collision between a Commuter Line train and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek in the East Bekasi Station area.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin, along with the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Dudy Purwagandhi and Director General of Railways Allan Tandiono, paid condolences to the victims’ families on Wednesday (29/4).

The visit began at the residence of the late Nurlaela in East Cikarang. During this occasion, the group directly conveyed their sympathies to the family.

After the visit in East Cikarang, the delegation continued to two other funeral homes in the Tambun area, namely the residences of the late Arinjani Novita Sari and the late Nur Ainia Eka Rahmadhyna.

On a separate occasion, all KAI directors also visited the funeral homes of the victims at various locations as a form of empathy and corporate responsibility to the bereaved families, while handing over compensation.

Bobby conveyed apologies and condolences to all the victims’ families.

“We express our deepest condolences and the utmost apologies to all the victims’ families over this incident. We are here to directly convey our sympathies and ensure that the families receive accompaniment,” said Bobby.

He emphasised that KAI is conducting an investigation jointly with relevant parties and preparing a comprehensive evaluation of operational safety aspects.

“The investigation process is ongoing with relevant parties. The results will serve as the basis for evaluation to further safeguard the safety of train journeys,” he continued.

During the occasion, the victims’ families also expressed their hope that the cause of the incident could be quickly determined. Hary Marwata, father of the late Nur Ainia Eka Rahmadhyna, stated that his daughter was a daily KRL user in her routine activities.

“My child used the KRL every day from Tambun to Palmerah for work. We hope the investigation process runs smoothly and the cause of this incident can be quickly identified,” he said.

Based on preliminary data, the death toll stands at 16 people, while 45 others are still under treatment and another 45 have been allowed to go home. All victims have been treated at referral hospitals in the Bekasi area and surroundings.

As a form of responsibility and concern, the KAI Group is providing compensation to the victims, namely IDR 35,000,000 for deceased victims and IDR 15,000,000 for injured victims.

KAI also ensures that victims’ belongings found will be managed and returned to families through a post that has been prepared. An information and service post is on standby at East Bekasi Station to assist victims’ families, as well as at Gambir Station to support the needs of other affected customers.

Alongside the handling at the site, KAI has ensured that the tracks in the East Bekasi area have undergone evacuation and cleaning processes. Checks were conducted before operations resumed, so all stages proceed safely and under control.

Starting at 14:00 WIB, East Bekasi Station resumed serving passengers, and KRL services on the Bekasi-Cikarang route operated normally in stages. Operational recovery was carried out with caution.

“All stages have undergone thorough checks to ensure the safety of train travel,” explained KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba.

KAI will continue to provide periodic updates on the handling progress and accompany the victims’ families during this difficult time.

“The company also expresses thanks for the patience and understanding of the victims’ families and customers during the handling and recovery process,” Anne concluded.

All KAI directors have provided compensation at other funeral homes across various locations.
