Jakarta — Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has addressed concerns about the national stock of fuel (BBM) ranging from 20 to 23 days, which has sparked public worry. He assured that the BBM stock would not affect people’s needs ahead of the Lebaran mudik and balik in 2026.

‘Indeed, storage (storage capacity) at 21 days actually measures the capacity to store. If it’s higher, we cannot store more,’ he said during an update on Lebaran Transport readiness 2026 at The Ritz-Carlton, Jakarta, on Friday, 6 March 2026.

As a member of the National Energy Council (DEN), Dudy explained that the 21-day figure does not mean the stock would run out after that period. It is the minimum reserve that must be maintained at all times, not a static stock left to deplete to zero. ‘If it decreases, Pertamina and ESDM will add,’ he remarked.

He noted that global oil supply has become dynamic following tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for around 20 percent of global distribution. However, Indonesia still has alternative supply sources from other countries that are relatively unaffected by the conflict. ‘The Hormuz region accounts for around 20 percent of the total global supply. That means we still have other places from which to obtain BBM,’ he added.

Dudy said there are still several other places that can be chosen to supply global oil to Indonesia. He hopes this will provide relief in maintaining BBM stock supplies in Indonesia. ‘From what I saw yesterday, there are several countries that do not seem too affected by the conflict area. There are some countries that, as oil exporters, can still meet our needs,’ he said.
