The Government has undertaken various preparations, including readiness of land, sea, air and ferry transport infrastructure and facilities.

Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister of Transport (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi has confirmed the readiness of national transport infrastructure and services to handle Eid 2026 travel, with the aim of ensuring smooth, safe and comfortable journeys for the public during the mudik (homecoming) and return travel periods.

“The government has undertaken various preparations, including readiness of land, sea, air and ferry transport infrastructure and facilities,” he stated in remarks in Jakarta on Thursday.

Additionally, the Ministry of Transport is conducting safety inspections of all transport modes, implementing economic stimulus measures through tariff discounts for aeroplanes, ships, trains and ferries, and offering free mudik services.

There are also work-from-anywhere (WFA) arrangements, traffic management engineering policies, provision of additional fleets and coordination of freight transport operations.

The minister noted that based on a survey of movement potential during Eid 2026 travel, the estimated number of people travelling is projected at 50 to 60 per cent of Indonesia’s population, equivalent to 143.91 million people.

This figure represents a 1.75 per cent decrease compared with the Eid 2025 travel survey estimate of approximately 146 million people.

“However, in reality, the actual number of travellers in 2025 reached 154 million people. This indicates that public mobility during the Eid period tends to exceed the estimates projected in the survey,” the minister said.

The Ministry of Transport is also conducting digital-based Eid travel monitoring operations through reporting on transport hubs and networks, surveillance of vehicle movements, live drone streaming, accident monitoring and public complaints management.

“Monitoring also includes weather information and early warnings from the Meteorological Agency (BMKG) as well as surveillance from 7,159 CCTV cameras in cooperation with regional governments, state-owned enterprises and the private sector,” the minister added.

To facilitate traffic flow to ferry terminals, the government has prepared a layered buffer zone scheme at Merak Port. Toll road buffer zones are being prepared using rest areas from KM 13, KM 43 to KM 63.

Port buffer zones are also being provided in the Merak Port, Indah Kiat, BBJ and Ciwandan areas, as well as several points on main arterial roads as an additional measure to maintain smooth traffic flow and prevent vehicle congestion at port terminals.

Additionally, the Ministry of Transport has coordinated with relevant parties and prepared five ferry crossing routes from Java to Sumatra for Eid 2026 travel, consisting of Merak–Bakauheni, Ciwandan–PT. Wijaya Karya Beton, Ciwandan–Bakauheni, BBJ Bojonegara–BBJ Muara Pilu, and PT. Krakatau Bandar Samudera–Panjang as a contingency plan.

For ferry crossings from Java to Bali and Nusa Tenggara Barat during Eid 2026 travel, the Ministry of Transport has coordinated with relevant parties to prepare crossing routes, namely Ketapang–Gilimanuk and Jangkar–Lembar.

“We also recognise the need to prepare for potential restrictions on ferry port operations from Java to Bali due to the Nyepi celebration and Eid falling at adjacent times,” the minister said.
