Minister of Religious Affairs Urges Making the Quran an Inspiration for National and State Life
Jakarta — Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar has emphasised that the commemoration of Nuzulul Quran represents an important opportunity to strengthen the Quran as a source of inspiration in national and state life.
“This commemoration is an opportunity for us all to reaffirm our commitment to making the Quran a source of inspiration in building national and state life and civilisation,” said Nasaruddin Umar at the State-Level Commemoration of Nuzulul Quran at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The Nuzulul Quran commemoration at the State Palace was attended by approximately 278 people comprising Cabinet ministers of the Red and White administration, Islamic civil organisations, senior state officials and institutions, the Coordination Forum of Regional Leaders (Forkopimda), religious leaders, and a number of orphans.
According to the Minister of Religious Affairs, the event is part of a collective effort to revive Quranic values in society, ensuring that its teachings are not merely read and contemplated, but also practised in daily life.
In the context of national life, he assessed that Quranic values such as justice, brotherhood, moral responsibility, and the mandate to protect and preserve the earth are particularly important for the nation’s journey.
He also emphasised the importance of the role of Islamic scholars in delivering preaching that soothes and strengthens brotherhood within society.
In religious tradition, he said, Islamic scholars have consistently taught that preaching should be a soothing force that strengthens unity, rather than causing division.
The Minister of Religious Affairs also reminded the teachings of Islamic scholars who encourage the faithful to continuously pray for leaders so that they may be granted strength and wisdom in governing the nation.
“If I direct my prayer towards myself, then its benefit returns only to me, but if I direct it towards leaders, then the goodness of the leaders will bring goodness to people and the nation,” said Nasaruddin Umar.
The Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque expressed hope that Quranic values can continue to serve as a source of inspiration in preserving the unity of the Indonesian nation and in achieving a peaceful, just life that brings mercy to all creation.
