Minister of Public Works: Progress on Construction of 104 People's Schools at 15.5 Percent, Set to Accommodate 112,000 Students
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has revealed that the construction progress of the second phase of People’s Schools at 104 locations across Indonesia has reached 15.54 percent as of 22 March 2026.
This construction is part of the government’s efforts to support equitable access to education while improving the quality of human resources.
The People’s Schools programme is spread across 32 provinces and 102 regencies/cities, with a target capacity of 112,320 students divided into 3,744 learning groups.
“The construction of these People’s Schools is a tangible form of the government’s commitment to building superior human resources. The Ministry of PU wants to ensure that these educational facilities are built quickly and with quality,” stated the minister in a written statement on Monday (23/3/2026).
The second phase of People’s Schools is being built permanently on government regional land spanning 5 to 10 hectares.
Each location is designed as an integrated educational zone with various modern facilities.
In addition, supporting facilities are available such as canteens, clinics, sports fields, extracurricular rooms, and green open spaces.
In its implementation, the Ministry of PU is also continuously accelerating the resolution of various technical obstacles in the field, such as construction access, material mobilisation, and readiness of supporting infrastructure.
For example, construction in Central Java Province, spread across 11 locations, shows varying progress.
Based on the latest progress, construction in Central Java shows varied development, with some locations exceeding the national average progress, such as in Sragen Regency which has reached 30.90 percent.
The Ministry of PU emphasises that it will continue to strengthen synergy with local governments so that all projects can be completed on time and soon utilised by the community.
