Minister of Primary and Secondary Education: Learning Continues in Schools After Eid
He stated that the proposal to implement hybrid learning activities (online and offline) has been cancelled, considering the academic aspects and the strengthening of students’ character education. “According to the results of the cross-ministerial meeting on 23 March, learning in schools will proceed as usual, taking into account academic considerations and character education strengthening,” said the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Mu’ti, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday. On a separate occasion, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Pratikno, said that learning can proceed as normal, with students able to attend school for the learning process. “Students’ learning will continue as usual,” said Pratikno. He added that there had indeed been discussions about the possibility of using a hybrid method combining offline and online approaches. However, he continued, given the importance of maintaining the quality of students’ education, online learning for students is not an urgency at this time. “In line with the extraordinary priority given by the President to the education sector, from school revitalisation, People’s Schools, and the Garuda Excellence Schools, we must accelerate the improvement of education quality, both under the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. This is a priority. This is paramount,” he stated. The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also conveyed the importance of ensuring that the students’ learning process continues as usual. According to him, in the education sector, the learning process must become increasingly optimal and learning loss must not occur. Therefore, he said, the implementation of the learning process will continue offline for students. “Essential medical services will also operate fully normally,” Pratikno emphasised.
