Minister of PPPA Urges Police to Investigate Stepmother Allegedly Involved in Child Abuse Case in Sukabumi
Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, has urged the police to immediately investigate the stepmother suspected of abusing a child, leading to the child’s death in Sukabumi.
“(Urging immediate investigation) Oh yes, yes,” said Arifah when met at the Bali Governor’s Office, Denpasar, Tuesday (24/2/2026).
However, Arifah said that further investigation is needed, accompanied by strong evidence and supporting facts, in order to determine if charges will be filed.
According to her, the police have shown commitment in this case. She added that the case is currently being handled at the district level by the Social Services Department.
The Ministry of PPPA, through the Social Services Department, is also conducting outreach to the stepmother suspected of the abuse.
“So, in cases of violence involving children and women, there will definitely be coordination with relevant departments in the region,” she explained.
In detail, Arifah explained that her focus is on good parenting patterns between children and mothers, both stepmothers and biological mothers. “Everyone must practice good parenting for their children,” Arifah concluded.
For information, the case of the death of a young boy in Sukabumi, West Java, has become a public concern. The victim, with the initials NS, died after allegedly experiencing abuse involving his stepmother.
The incident is still under investigation by the police. Several facts have begun to emerge, ranging from the condition of the victim when found, the results of the autopsy, to statements from the family and the victim’s stepmother.
The case was first discovered by the victim’s biological father, Anwar Satibi (38), who was contacted by his wife to return home. At that time, he was working in the city of Sukabumi.
The autopsy conducted by the medical team from Bhayangkara Hospital Level II Setukpa Lemdiklat Polri Sukabumi found burns on several parts of the victim’s body.
“A 12-year-old child was found with burns on the limbs, on the left leg, and there were also several wounds on the back. Burns were also found on the lip and nose, allegedly due to heat,” said the Head of Bhayangkara Hospital Level II Setukpa Lemdiklat Polri Sukabumi, Kombes Carles Siagian, as reported by detikJabar, Saturday (21/2).
