The Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, stated that he is still investigating the alleged layoffs at Mie Sedaap producer, PT Karunia Alam Segar, in Gresik. “Regarding the (alleged Mie Sedaap layoffs), we are still monitoring the situation. We will provide an update to you soon,” said Minister Yassierli, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

Previously, information circulated on social media that approximately 400 workers at the Mie Sedaap production company were sent home a few days before Ramadan. In a social media post, hundreds of workers reportedly received notice of the layoffs only through WhatsApp messages. However, the employment contracts of these workers were still valid.

The Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated on Monday, February 23, 2026, that he had received input from workers at PT Karunia Alam Segar, the producer of Mie Sedaap. He stated that the company had agreed and promised not to conduct further layoffs. “We have already coordinated, and I think the workers can now return to work calmly,” said Dasco.

He emphasized that the company’s layoff policy should not have occurred, especially during Ramadan and leading up to Eid al-Fitr.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) believes that the case of dozens of Mie Sedaap factory workers being sent home before Eid is not an isolated incident. It is the tip of the iceberg of a serious problem related to the payment of Eid bonuses.

The President of KSPI, Said Iqbal, stated that the practice of “sending workers home” without layoffs is a new tactic to avoid the obligation to pay Eid bonuses. “The company is not conducting layoffs. That is true. But the workers are being sent home, not paid their salaries before Eid, and not paid their Eid bonuses. This is a tactic,” said Said Iqbal.
