Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Inspects Potential BSPS Recipients' Sites in Surabaya
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, directly inspected the sites of potential recipients of Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) in Surabaya, East Java, as part of accelerating the house rehabilitation programme for low-income communities.
The BSPS programme in East Java for 2026 records a significant increase, with a total of 33,000 family heads (KK) as recipients, a drastic rise compared to the previous year which was only around 3,000 units.
“The increase is very large; last year 3,000, now in East Java it reaches 33,000 houses,” said Maruarar during the inspection in Surabaya on Sunday.
In the programme, each recipient receives assistance of Rp20 million per housing unit. The breakdown is Rp17.5 million allocated for purchasing building materials, while Rp2.5 million is used for workers’ wages.
Assuming each house construction involves three workers, BSPS has the potential to absorb up to 99,000 workers.
“If 33,000 houses are worked on by three people, that means almost 99,000 workers are involved. This has a big impact on the economy,” he stated.
In addition to inspecting BSPS, the PKP Minister also socialised economic empowerment programmes such as People’s Business Credit (KUR) and PNM Mekar, which target ultra-micro business actors, especially women.
