Bandung, VIVA – Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono has assured that the imported trucks and pickups, which have already been brought in, will still be utilised to support the operations of Red and White Cooperatives in various regions.

Ferry stated that thousands of these vehicles will be allocated to village cooperatives that already have infrastructure readiness, such as physical buildings, warehouses, and outlets.

“Yesterday, because they were already imported, the number is still in the thousands, we will fulfil them for operations in village cooperatives that have completed their physical buildings, warehouses, outlets, and equipment,” said Ferry at Masjid Al Jabbar on Sunday (29/3/2026).

He explained that each cooperative will receive one truck, one pickup, and a motorcycle to support the distribution of goods to and from the village.

“Now, thousands of trucks and pick-ups have been distributed to Red and White Village and Sub-district Cooperatives (around 2,400 cooperatives),” he said.

Although using imported vehicles, Ferry acknowledged that the government still prioritises domestic automotive industry products or companies that have invested in Indonesia.

“But if there is a shortage, we are certainly allowed to source from any country,” he stated.

Furthermore, he revealed that he has coordinated with Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) to fulfil the remaining operational vehicle needs.

“To meet the remaining needs of the Red and White Cooperatives, we have discussed this with the Industry Minister, with Gaikindo, and we will prioritise our domestic automotive industry that has been established,” he added.

The government itself targets more than 80,000 Red and White Cooperatives to be established in all villages and sub-districts across Indonesia.

To support the programme, the government provides initial financing access of up to Rp3 billion per cooperative through Himbara banks, with an interest rate of around 6 percent per year, a tenor of 6-10 years, and a grace period of 6-8 months.

Previously, these operational vehicles were imported by Agrinas Pangan from India, including production from Mahindra Ltd and Tata Motors.

The total import covers 105,000 vehicles, consisting of 70,000 4x4 pickups and 35,000 six-wheeled trucks, with a value of Rp24.66 trillion.

This import step was said to be carried out due to the limitations of the domestic industry in meeting the needs for 4x4 pickup vehicles.
