Minister of Agriculture Ensures Urea Fertiliser Supply Is Safe as Strait of Hormuz Is Closed
Jakarta — Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman said the national urea fertiliser supply remains safe and under control, even as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz raises concerns about global distribution. Speaking at a poultry export release event in Jakarta on Tuesday, which included shipments to Japan, Singapore and Timor-Leste, Amran said the fertiliser supply is safe because inventories had already entered the country before the conflict between Iran and Israel and its US allies.
‘Not hindered, safe. The fertiliser has already entered (before the US-Israel conflict with Iran). This fertiliser supply is sufficient, even compared to last year,’ Amran said.
He urged the government to anticipate the impact of geopolitical tensions that could push up prices of fertiliser feedstock in international markets.
Amran confirmed that domestic fertiliser distribution is not hindered and that stocks for farmers are ample and safe.
Moreover, he noted that fertiliser supply in January–February had increased compared with the previous year. However, he did not specify the exact quantity of urea fertiliser currently in supply.
Regarding urea feedstock, Amran stressed that its availability remains safe and is not affected by the Middle East situation.
