Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers: No Problems for Indonesian Migrant Workers in Iran
Jakarta — The Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, has said that there are no problems for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Iran. He made the remark when asked about the condition of PMIs in the region.
‘No. No problems,’ Mukhtarudin told reporters at the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) in South Jakarta on Thursday (5 March 2026).
He noted that there have been no reports about the conditions of PMIs there, despite escalations in Israeli and American actions in the region.
‘So, it means they are still under the government’s control. Under the control of the Iranian government, and also under the supervision of our representatives. So, no problems,’ he explained.
Mukhtarudin added that the Ministry had received a vlog from PMIs in Iran. In the video, he said, they appeared to be fine and not in difficulty.
‘Yesterday we also received a vlog, a video from our colleagues in Iran. They are making the video, walking around. He said, ’we are just ordinary here. We walk, we go to the market. My child, I have just taken my children to school’,’ he said.
‘So, alhamdulillah, that provides us with reassurance. But we will keep monitoring. Because the escalation is increasing. This is not, we will still monitor. And emergency measures have been prepared,’ he added.
The PMIs departed independently because Iran is not an official placement destination, given that the security conditions in the country are deemed not conducive.
‘So there are some, but not many. Yes, but the numbers may be around a hundred. And that is among domestic workers on average,’ he concluded.
